Hi, I’m Valerie

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed picking a pattern, unsure how to shop for fabric online, or frustrated with your sewing space… you’re not alone. I’ve been sewing in basements, dining rooms, and wherever else I could make space since I was seven years old.

My mom taught me to sew in the unfinished basement of our tiny starter home, guiding a piece of paper under the needle to practice sewing straight lines. My first real project was for a 4-H fashion show when I was twelve…and let’s just say, orange polyester was a bold (and regrettable) choice.

Since then, I’ve sewn through life’s many stages:

  • My college-student-on-a-budget wedding dress, complete with lace appliqué and hand beading.
  • Cute clothes for my kids that stood up to everyday wear-and-tear
  • A business-wear outfit that won ribbons at the state fair
  • And even custom wrestling singlets for my daughter

Today, I sew wearable, comfortable clothes that fit my life, whether I’m working from home, spending time with family, or hanging out with friends. I believe sewing should feel satisfying, not stressful.

I’m here to help you sew smarter, not harder.

No perfectionism. No judgment. Just clear, honest guidance from someone who gets it.

I know what it’s like to sew in a real house with real distractions.

Right now, I’m sewing in my dining room: four machines, a dining table cutting station, and my ironing board in the room across the hall. (We’re mid-makeover on a new sewing room. It’s taking longer than expected… because of course it is.)

But you don’t need a picture-perfect studio to sew.

You just need a process that works, and the right tools to support it.

After years of frustration trying to match thread spools and bobbins stored in separate containers, I asked my husband for one thing for my birthday: a way to store thread with its matching bobbin.

That idea turned into a prototype. Then a refined design. Then a patent application.

The Twirler Thread Organizer is coming soon, and it’s just the beginning.

My goal is to create tools that make sewing more enjoyable, less frustrating, and totally doable in real life.

Before launching Dream Sewing Studio, I worked in Corporate America for 20 years and then ran my own business as a consultant. These days, I use those same strategic, problem-solving skills to help other hobby sewists create a wardrobe they love, and a sewing space that actually works.
